Over the past month my Internet presence and use has gone a little wild. I’m often trying out one thing and another, some things stick, some get left by the wayside, often with an account I cannot actually delete. The recent foray into the wild Internet was initially inspired by the need to provide a very non-techy friend with a blog he could update on his iPhone. It was then kicked into full swing following the news and abuse the news of the then impending (doom?) Apple’s iPad.
T’was the night before iPad, when all through the web
Every creature was stirring, no-one in bed.
The laptops and iPhones blogged without care,
In hopes that St Steve soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-tablets danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I with my iPhone,
Could not settled our brains waiting for the (un)known.
I got Twitter.
Meaning I actually got what it meant, to me at least.
I lay there in bed until late (it’s difficult being 15 hours ahead of Cupertino) watching the Tweets fly, fascinated by @Jason‘s (Jason Calacanis) game that fooled many – my last tweet that night, nearly 1am, was to advise Stephen Fry that Jason’s Tweets were probably a pure fanciful speculation game…
In 2009 I would be heard replying to the question “What’s Twitter?” with “Pointless. I’m not interested in wasting my time reading what you are eating for dinner and which film you enjoyed watching tonight”. I’m still not interested in that, but that is not what Twitter’s good for (again, for me). That, along with a great RSS feed reader iNews and all this on my iPhone, things escalated…
So 2010 has featured the following for me, in alphabetical order, and noting I’ve been using/reading/listening to many of these for a very long time, though a couple for less than 24 hours:
